Searching will query a photograph's captions, categories and date fields.
There are multiple methods for searching for images within our database:
Topics or Categories - such as track meet or sports
Name - the name of a person, business or event
Date - a publication date, photograph date or the date text within a caption
Combination - a combination of any the above
Mirror Pond - searches for results including Mirror and Pond
“Mirror Pond” - searches for the exact phrase Mirror Pond
05/12/18 - searches for both publication date and date the photo was shot
track meet Bend 5/12/18 - searches for both those terms on the specific date
We think our searching algorithm is really good, but if you're having trouble finding what you want, try these tips.
Perform a broader search. Simplifying your search may bring you more results. For example, instead of searching for Bend High School track, search for just Bend High or track.
Try a different kind of search. Instead of searching for your son's name, try searching for the event he participated in.
Remove the date. Dates can be tricky because we publish to the web and print, and usually on different days.
Remove quotes from a search. Searching with quotes restricts results to the exact search term. The image caption may have all those words, but maybe not together.
Possible reasons an image can't be found:
We don't have rights to sell the photo. We publish many stories with images from our wire services and are not allowed to sell them. Occasionally, we publish reader submitted photos and we don't sell those either.
We're missing data in our database. If you feel we should have an image and want us to search for it, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include as much information as possible to aid us in locating the image.
